We’re down to two: Steelers need to win

I don’t pretend to understand math, but I do want to say that I really would like to understand how the Steelers have “clinched” a spot after that heartbreaking loss to the Jets.  I know, it has something to do with what the NFL calls strength of schedule, and maybe the losses for Miami and Jacksonville played a role.  I don’t know.  What I do know is this, we need to win these last two games to clinch the division and get a sweet bye week so the Steelers can all heal before playoffs start.

The best play on Sunday? I hate to say this, but the Sanchez bootleg had me fooled.  Bet the one person it wouldn’t have fooled was on the sideline.  That’s why we need the rest, so that clutch players like Troy will be healthy and ready to go for the big games. And hopefully Aaron Smith will be back as well.

The worst play of the day? The MeMo safety in the end zone – thank you Jason Taylor.  I will ask, though I don’t expect a logical answer…first, why the run? second, if you are going to run, why not hand the ball to Isaac Redman who had half a chance of getting it out of the endzone. And third, why the run? why?

I’d love to give you more, but I just can’t.  The Steelers should have won that game. But honestly, I am getting to the point in the season where my love-hate relationship with football shows through.  I love it, can’t wait for each game, absolutely can’t wait to see what happens in playoffs, but hate that the season is about the be over, with no “next” season in sight.  Regardless, I just want to get to the fun part…the playoffs.

To get there, we first have to get past Carolina and Cleveland.  Don’t sleep on anyone, this is the NFL.

For the record, I am thinking Sanchez might have the prettiest hair (and face?) in the NFL. Take that TomfreakingBrady.

Oh and by the way, who was mad about this? I liked Tone, but now, meh, not so much.

Sanchez pulled that game out of his ass! Rematch Steelers win going away!

It looks to me that, in the play that ended with a safety, we where one good block away from getting a first down running on the right side. With a missed block and that type of penetration by Taylor, a passing play, or a run by any other back, would probably have ended in a safety.

I was impressed by Sanchez’s ability to fake the hand-off, and not only on his touchdown run. There were a few plays were I simply could not tell who had the ball…

But I will say that after this game I have somewhat of the same feeling I had two years ago after the game against the Giants. We lost, but the team kept trying and making plays that they hadn’t before, enough for me to think that they could become unstoppable soon. For example, that last drive, although did not end up in the TD we needed, had many great passes and catches, good o-line work, etc. Hopefully my feelings are not unfounded,,,

Not much the ‘heartbreaking loss’ as you care to believe. Steelers still have control of destiny regards winning the division and the loss was more a ‘wake up call’ to most Steelers folk who think coasting in games is ok *roll eyes* and talking it up like we’re bringing the A game every week. Turn it up! I knew that without Troy Polamalu, no way this Steelers team can function as efficiently as it does with Troy. So when Sanchez strolled in on that bootleg, that was the essential difference. No way the Jets make that 4th & 1 play with Troy on D. The Steelers gave themselves every chance to WIN the game at the death but dropped catches lose matches. Not much separates the Jets from a Steelers unit minus three starters. I feel assured that the Steelers D can lift to more notches when it starts getting serious. Hope the players can respond with 4 solid quarters this Thursday Night. 31-3 Steelers.

I’m with you–playoffs or not, that loss bothered me big. Can’t help but wonder if Troy would’ve read that bootleg. It’s like he’s a good luck charm or something.
