Everyone who knows me understands that pink isn’t a color I wear when it comes to football. My teams colors are black and gold – yet that doesn’t mean I don’t support the hints of pink seen in every game played yesterday. I tip my hat to the NFL again for making sure that everyone knows they should get an annual breast cancer screening. I had my own mammogram 2 weeks ago (I know, TMI!).
While I jest about wearing pink, the facts about breast cancer tell a story that’s not funny at all:
- About 1 in 8 women in the United States (between 12 and 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.
- In 2010, an estimated 207,090 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S., along with 54,010 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
