Today was a busy day in Pittsburgh: the Steelers signed four more draft picks including WR Emmanuel Sanders, ILB Stevenson Sylvestor, RB Jonathon Dwyer and OTA star WR Antonio Brown. They also waived seven other players.
During this time of year, football isn’t personal, it’s business. Only those who are truly competitive for roster spots stick around. It’s got to be tough though, and I sure wouldn’t want to be Kevin Colbert on the days you have to crush some kids dream.
The training camp schedule was also released today. One of the best “vacations”I have had is a trip to Latrobe for camp. If you go, make sure you stop by Dino’s for wings. Probably the second best wings I have ever had.
Back to today’s signings, Frank over at Behind the Steel Curtain covered Antonio Brown already, so I won’t reinvent the wheel. But I will say that I think the Steelers are sleepers. I know they are my team, and I might be slightly biased, but there is a lot of talent both in new kids and with the vets. I won’t go so far as to say there’s a SB trip in anyone’s future in 2011, but I will say they could be a lot stronger than what people are giving them credit for right now. Defense wins games and with Troy healthy (crosses fingers) and the talent that was brought in this year, there’s potential that the Steelers will catch someone else sleeping!
I’m ready for the season to start.
How about you?
PS – I am still in the process of redesigning this site, but I want to keep up with posts as much as possible. Please frgive the shifting of info and changing backgrounds (hopefully) while you keep coming back to read!
