A Check in the W Column And That's About It

I asked for BOOM! But I got mediocrity.  It’s week 5, am I really asking too much?  Week 2 I said I felt like this relationship was one-sided – here I was traveling around to see you, waving my terrible towel, always believing.  I think you hear me, but I can’t be sure.  Even though you let Cincinnati win, you put a beating on San Diego (we’ll ignore the 4th quarter problems for now).  And, now here we are, you have won two consecutive games, including yesterday on the road. But I can’t keep having the same conversation with you over and over.  Soon, my friends (Ravens fans) will start quoting “He’s just not that into you” and tell me that the purple and black up the road has a lot of the same attributes but will treat me better.  Where’s the heart, where’s the passion? Do you NOT want this? And by this, I mean ring #7.  You know, “Stairway to seven?” or “Knocking on Sevens Door?” Remember those?

If it just weren’t so good when it’s good…

Yesterday wasn’t horrid…Ben threw 23 of 30 for 277 yards and 3 TDs.  Hines had 7 receptions for 85 yards and 1 TD.  He’s still one of the best slot receivers out there…Heath had 5 receptions for 54 yards and a beautiful TD.  And there’s even the new shining star of receivers, Mike Wallace only had 2 receptions for 52 yards…but that 47 yard catch for a TD was absolutely beautiful.  But honestly, I’m not sure why you didn’t run it more in the second half.  Rashard did what he could on the plays he had the ball- rushing for 77 yards and 1 TD on 15 carries.  But last week was kick-butt…the run game was beautiful.  What happened?

I’m just not feeling the love.  Seriously.  And the sad part is I don’t know why…Ford Field might as well have been a home game.  It was filled with Steelers fans.  We LOVE you!  Can we get some love back? A little follow through, some smackdown?

The defense looked just blah for the most part.  Though I can see everyone working hard. Ryan Clark was all over the field-he’s definitely tried to step up in the leaders spot with Troy on the sidelines.  Harrison had 3 sacks and a forced fumble.  Even Will Gay got in there with 1.5 sacks and he’s a corner!!!  Woodley also had 1.5 sacks and Timmons had a sack.  All those sacks and a beautiful 4th quarter blitzing drive and still….mediocrity.  Maybe the bar has been set too high? Should I lower expectations of the six-time champions?  What would Coach Tomlin say?

Some fans feel like I am being overly critical…they remind me that every team is bringing their A-game against the Steelers.  My response is “And???” Because yes, I get that everyone wants to dethrone the champs, got it.  But why are the Steelers not bringing their A-game every single week?  Week 1, week 2, week 3, sure I might have given you a break, rusty, getting the “gel” in place…but at this point?  No.  I mean, this was Detroit!!!!  They haven’t won a game in 2 years other than beating the Redskins last week.  If you had not won, I would sit back right now and say you don’t even deserve a trip to playoffs regardless of what the rest of the season looks like.  And if you think you will beat the Ravens twice or even Cincinnati again playing with no passion, then you are fooling yourselves.  You are a step up from .500 – you know what that is? It’s average.  Are you an average team? Six-time champs are average?

However, you know what is spectacular?  The O-line.  The O-LINE!!!

I feel like I have Kool-aid, no sugar. Cereal, no milk. Peanut butter, no jelly.  Come on Steelers – can you get it together?  Where’s the #1 ranked defense? Where’s the killer run game? And how about WRs making big plays when we need them, where we need them? For once, can’t blame the O-line.  We complained about them all last year, complained there were no big additions made on the off-season..and they delivered.

Next week is Cleveland.  Can we see some fight? Some passion? For a full 60 minutes?

You are letting these other teams hang around way too long.  At least last year when you won by a field goal or a TD or one point there was complete passion in the game.  You played your little hearts out.  I’m just not seeing it.  And the one-sided relationship is getting old.  Show me some love, please.
