The last few weeks I have been thinking about what’s missing from my Six-time Super Bowl Champion Steelers and finally, I have it. Â It’s the FEAR. Â The “BOOM.” Â That defensive instinct that kills quarterbacks. Â It smells like FEAR. Â Instead, teams are more worried about how many yards Ben is going to throw on them. Â (Who is this team where a passing game trumps all else?). Â Where is the shock and awe otherwise known as James Harrison and LaMarr Woodley? Â It’s not that no one is doing their job…although I am still ready to pitch in for a halftime energy drink. Â (can we get a sponsor? I have the perfect marketing opportunity here…)
Remember this?

The defense is just the missing passion, the crazy blitzing, the BOOM. Â One player does not make a championship defense, so even with Troy out (and he should NOT play this week) we should still see excellence. I know he’s a leader, a playmaker, but so are the rest of the defensive players. Troy didn’t do it himself last year. Step up everyone. Step up!
I want BOOM!
So, this week against the Lions? Â This is an opportunity-done right-to build confidence, and play 60 minutes of football. Â I’d like to see the Steelers finish this game and make it pretty. Â PRETTY and Steelers in same sentence. Â Yes, I said it. Â Defense just needs to hold on. And Ben, take your little sammich-eating face out there and kick butt. Take advantage of Detroit’s defense…they’ve allowed 240 yards passing on average. Throw the ball. Â Hit Mike Wallace, Santonio, Hines and Heath…this is an opportunity to also show the myriad of weapons there are on the Steelers offense. Â I’d also like to see Rashard shred Detroit’s rush defense to pieces much the way he did against San Diego. Â Detroit has allowed on average 121 yards rushing. Rashard should have another strong game and hopefully have more than 100 yards rushing.
One note: Larry Foote, a former Steelers LB, and in my opinion, a Steeler for life – will be wearing a Detroit uniform this Sunday. Â He knows the Steelers offense and he leads Detroit in tackles. Â The offensive line will need to be ready for him so that Ben is protected. Love him. I do. But want the Steelers to win more. Â I’ll cheer hard for him against every other team in the league.
Let’s go Steelers.
Can we finish? With Boom?!?
