Pittsburgh vs. Dallas
Remember? OK, so maybe I was young, but I remember Terry Bradshaw. I remember Lynn Swann and I remember Mean Joe Greene.
I also remember Tom Landry’s Cowboys and Roger Staubach.
The fundamental difference between my team and “America’s Team” is what I will term as the ego.
Dallas has always been about individuals, talent, celebrity. It’s part of who they are and even epitomized by the star they wear on their helmets. They are stars.
But “stars” doesn’t necessarily translate into team.
Pittsburgh, on the other hand, has always been about rolling up the sleeves and going to work. The “blue collar” work ethic. Sunday is a work day. You can see it in the # 1 ranked defense and on most days, you can see it in the offense. There are no stars or individuals in Pittsburgh. Sure, probably most people know Big Ben is the quarterback, but Ben doesn’t do anything without anyone to run with or catch the ball. There is no Steel Curtain without Dick LeBeau. Of course Troy Polamalu is a beast, but so are Harrison and Woodley. You get the picture. It’s teamwork.
This weekend might as well be the same match up we saw during Super Bowl X.
Dallas has its talent and showboats, but Pittsburgh is going to go to work.
LC Greenwood to James Harrison and coming to get Tony Romo.
Glen Edwards to Troy Polamalu and watch where you throw, might get a pick in the endzone.
Terry Bradshaw to Ben Roethlisberger leading the offense.
Lynn Swann to Santonio Holmes and touchdowns, all that needs to be said.
Larry Brown to Heath Miller for yardage when you need it.
And Frank Lewis to Hines Ward for the passing game.
Mean Joe to Willie Parker and mad yardage…don’t let there be an open gap for long or Fast Willie is gone!
On Sunday, when we meet the Cowboys at Heinz Field, I predict a similar game, similar outcome just new names in a new stadium
