People always ask me how I came to love football so much.
You know, for a girl and all….and why do I love the Steelers, did I grow up in Pittsburgh?
When I think about the Steelers, and no I didn’t grow up in Pittsburgh, but two hours away in central Pennsylvania, I think about my dad.
If there’s anyone who can roll off a stat about anything Pittsburgh it’s definitely him, from Willie Stargell’s Pirates to Mean Joe Green/Lynn Swann/Terry Bradshaw’s Steelers. I grew up knowing nothing but all sports Pittsburgh and loving both teams. And there’s also the love for my Dad. It’s not just the love of the game, it’s the sports that adds to the bond.
Thanks Dad – for teaching me about the “Steel Curtain” and that Pittsburgh running game they are famous for. And for being there when I call on Sunday during the game just to ask “Did you see that?” or “What the hell are they doing” and understanding that when the commercial is over, or the next play takes shape that I have to get off the phone or I might miss something and you don’t take it personally.
And knowing what I mean when I say, “Why can’t they just do the Heath Miller special more often?”
That’s how a Steelergurl shows love for her father.
