Cassell, the Pats and a victory

I’m going to say exactly what Anthony Smith said in an interview with the Indiana Gazette.

“If they ask me again, I’ll say the same thing,” said Smith.  “We’re the number one defense.  If we play like we’ve been playing, and our offense comes around and has a good game and we’re clicking on all cylinders, we’re going to win the game.”

I don’t really consider that a guarantee – there are a lot of caveats in Smith’s statement.  But I agree.  If all those things happen, then there’s a victory in the Steelers trip up north.

Here’s the other #1 – the Steelers secondary.  All season long they’ve been shutting folks down, especially other teams top receivers.  Two years ago, I was screaming at Ike Taylor during every game.  But he’s come a long way.  Though Deshea Townsend is doubtful this week, it seems that Bryant McFadden will likely play.

The key is to limit the touches that Wes Welker and Randy Moss get.  Keep them covered. 

I think Pittsburgh’s #1 total defense will shut down Cassell.  Let me put it this way, he’s not going to have a 400 yard day against the Steelers #1 defense.  I also think the blitz package will crazy.  Dick LeBeau has something for Cassell, I am sure.

On the offense – they have to protect Ben.  Willie Parker is questionable with swelling on his knee.  But I am ok with that.  I don’t see him getting a clear jump on the field against the Pats defense anyway.  I think Moore and Russell can keep us going on the run.  But more than likely, they will have to keep the passing game strong.  I trust that Hines Ward, Heath Miller and returning Santonio Holmes will get a lot of attention this week. 

I’m calling a Steeler victory. Low score.  24-17.  That’s my guess.
