Yesterday, Â in a deal worth reportedly $22 million over the term of the contract, Hines Ward renegotiated to stay with the Steelers through 2013. Â Essentially, he will finish what he started- an outstanding career as a wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
At 33, Ward has  800 career catches for 9,780 yards and 72 touchdowns.  He was also voted MVP during Super Bowl XL.
In addition to reaching terms with Ward, the Steelers also  restructured cornerback Ike Taylor’s contract for the second year in a row. Taylor will make less in base salary than the $3.5 million he was to make but he will be paid a signing bonus that can be spread out for cap purposes over the length of the contract.
It was important to create room under the salary cap so that the Steelers could sign their draft picks.
Steeler Nation is happy to have Harrison, Ward and Taylor’s deals done, especially with the list of starters who would become free agents in 2010, which would have included Ward.
