Lots of offense, but where did the defense go? Raiders beat Steelers week 3.
I think we need to pause a moment and watch this video.
Where is our defense? And it can’t hang that heavily on Harrison and Polamalu. In fact, Ryan Clark is a beast, Ike seemed to have an ok game. Yet the Raiders scored. They answered all our points, and well, then some since they won the game.
You can’t really blame it on the offense, although penalties and fumbles don’t help, but Ben had a monster day (even getting as high as 50+ points in Fantasy Football!!).
My Sunday started off badly. First of all, I pay a lot of money for the NFL Ticket. A. Lot. As many of the rest of you do. But the 700 channel was blacked out because the game was shown locally on CBS. Except CBS showed the overtime games of both the Chiefs AND the Jets before giving me the Steelers. My first gripe goes to DirectTV. I don’t care what the local channels say or do, the 700s should never, ever, ever be blacked out. I should not have to watch my team in a tiny corner of my big TV on the NFL Game Mix channel. Ever. I bought a big a$$ TV so that I could watch the Steelers play on a BIG screen. I also got the ticket so I never have to miss a game. Except I missed the entire first quarter really. So, clearly, Sunday didn’t start off on the right foot.
Then I see the offense go out there and kill it.
But then the defense let the Raiders do the same thing.
And then little penalties and crazy referees made up for the rest of disappointment.
I’m glad we have an early bye week (I say that now until we see the Ravens twice in a short period of time) so that these guys can get healthy and come out against the Eagles on Oct 7 with a vengeance. Maybe by that time Harrison and Polamalu will be ready to rock and roll too. But I don’t think it’s all just missing them, though they are big in our defense.
I guess if you like a lot of offense, the Raiders v Steelers game was a good one. But we aren’t in the NFC East. We’re in the AFC North. Defense wins games.
PS – how long until the NFL gets this deal done with the real refs? Last night’s game with the Seahawks and the Packers was a HUGE cluster, no? I can only imagine the calls Goodell received today, not from fans, but from the Packers organization. That was an interception/touchback. It was. It would have been called as such too had Ed Hochuli been out on the field. Right?
