First, Happy New Year Steeler Nation!
2010 was good, but 2011 is going to be even better.
Let’s give our team credit for coming out yesterday and kicking butt from the beginning through the end of the game. The complaint all season (and previous seasons for that matter) has been that the Steelers allow teams to hang around and then give up points in the fourth quarter. Yesterday there was none of that as we witnessed the 41-9 beat down in Cleveland (sorry Browns fans). It was what was needed to secure that first round bye and give some of our injured players time to heal and get ready to rock during playoffs.
Ben completed 15 of 22 for 280 yards and 2TDs, including one to Wallace right at the start of the game. Of course, must give credit to Troy Polamalu for playing and for picking off Colt McCoy on the first series of the game. It was a big momentum change and set the tone for the rest of the game. The Browns looked decent all year, but not yesterday. I thought it would have been a closer game, one that the Steelers would have really had to focus to get through. But big plays made the difference, interceptions, big defensive plays (Ziggy!!) it all adds up and provides a good way to start playoffs.
The Steelers will host their first playoff game of the 2010 season at Heinz Field on Saturday, January 15 at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS.
The Steelers will could play Indianapolis, Kansas City or Baltimore, depending on which team is the highest seed to advance. Obviously, we’d prefer to see anyone other than the Ravens as the first game, but at least we know we can beat them. The Steelers tend to show a whole different kind of game when it comes to playoffs and hopefully the attitude they showed yesterday is maintained.
Here we go Steelers!
